西オーストラリア,ピルバラ地塊の縞状鉄鉱床(BIF)について,含
まれる磁性鉱物の同と残留磁化の成分の分離を行った.その結果,
主成分であるヘマタイトのほかにゲータイトを3割以下含み,これ
らが自然残留磁化全体の約1割の残留磁化を担っていることがわか
った.しかし,この成分はすでに発見されているヘマタイトの持つ
残留磁化の逆転には寄与していない.
abstract:
Rockmagnetic studies have been done on an Archean Banded Iron
Formation in north-western Australia, in which paleomagnetic
reversals are shown. From the result, it is indicated (1) that the
main ferromagnetic mineral in the BIF is hematite and the BIF also
contains goethite by 3/10 of the contained hematite at most, (2)
that these goethite minerals have crystallied around the hematite
crystals, (3) that goethite contributes to the remanent
magnetization of the BIF about by 10%, and (4) that the remanence
carried by goethite has been recently acquired and is directed to
