Communications Research Laboratory is running the Japanese Space Forecast Center as a member of the ISES (International Space Environment Service) under umbrella of the URSI (International Union of Radio Science) and issues forecasts of geomagnetic activities. The geomagnetic activity forecasts of the ISES is defined as follows based on locally determined k-indices; "Quiet" for k<3 or k=3, "Active" for k=4, "Minor Storm" for k=5, "Major Storm" for k=6, and "Severe Storm" for k=7 or K>7. In Japan the forecasts are made referring hand-scaled k-indices from the Kakioka geomagnetic observatory. Now it is possible to get geomagnetic data in near real-time manner. However, k-indices are useful for space weather forecasters and general users. Here, we report about calculation of tentative k-indices.

通信総合研究所は、国際電波科学連合(URSI)傘下のISES(International Space Environment Service)という組織の日本の宇宙天気予報センターとして、地磁気擾乱予報を行っている。
